Energy efficiency in Irish homes

Number of private rented dwellings in Ireland.

Low levels of energy efficiency are a particular challenge in the Irish rental housing market. The 2011 census found that 29% of dwellings in the country were rented, with the trend increasing.

Other studies show that people living in rented accommodation are twice as likely to live in a home that has a BER rating of E, F or G, with about 20% of rented dwellings falling into the last two categories. Find out more about the Irish policy on fuel poverty.
